Spend Memorial Day Weekend in Kennebunkport

May 6th, 2015 Fontenay Terrace Motel

Memorial DayEvery spring, we honor our servicemen and women across the country with Memorial Day services.  Often doubling as the unofficial start to the summer season, the Memorial Day holiday in Kennebunkport offers residents and guests plenty of opportunities to pay their respects and enjoy the holiday.
Both Kennebunkport and the town of Kennebunk hold parades to honor the day. Kennebunkport’s parade starts first, usually stepping off at approximately 9:30 a.m. The parade features area veterans and service organizations, as well as musicians from the high school marching band. Additionally, attendees at the parade and ceremonies may see former President George H.W. Bush, who has a home in the area and has often attended Kennebunkport’s events. In Kennebunk, the day’s events start with a 7 a.m. salute to veterans at area cemeteries, followed by a band concert at the town hall at 1:30 p.m. The parade then departs from town hall at approximately 1:45 p.m.
The long weekend is also a great time to get out and see some of the area’s natural beauty. Parsons Way Trail is a short, casual walking trail along the shore in the southwest portion of Kennebunkport. This trail provides excellent views of the whole coast from the ocean cliffs, and passes by Spouting Rock and Blowing Cave. If you’re more inclined to please your palate, many of Kennebunkport’s restaurants will be open for the season, and offering their delicious seafood, grilled goods and cocktails. Don’t forget dessert either, with Rococo Artisan Ice Cream offering its unique and award-winning flavors, such as Blue Fin Stout, a beer ice cream, and Maple Fig Jalapeno.
Whether you’re a local or looking to get away for the weekend, come to Kennebunkport this Memorial Day to relax, unwind and get into the summer spirit.
