Its time to put up the Christmas tree in your home, or even see the Christmas tree lighting ceremonies in your area.

There is one tree you will want to set eyes on and can only find it on the coast. There is more than one in the area but you won’t find this tree in the Midwest. It is a Christmas tree made out of lobster traps.

Although the original lobster trap is unknown it is known that they have been making them for decades.

It is a fun tradition and even a competition between the coastal towns. They all try to make the biggest and most creative lobster trap tree. In Rockland, Maine they have been building the lobster trap tree for over 60 years. They even have lobster traps specially designed for this purpose.

They say what sets them apart for other lobster trap trees is they light the tree from the inside and then decorate on the outside. Many of these trees are found stacked high and covered in holiday decorations. Fisherman use buoys as ornaments and garland to look like seaweed. These are truly a sight to see.

Kennebunkport even has a one of along with a large holiday celebration as well, a month long celebration known as the Christmas Prelude.

While you take in the sights of the lobster trap Christmas trees you can also think about the mouthwatering dinner you can have at one of the many local eateries. Then come back and put your feet up and get warm and snuggle in tight with your significant other to have a truly lovely Maine weekend. Maybe it is time for you to have a winter get away, away from all the hustle and bustle.
